This beautiful Saturday morning reminds me my childhood. Waking up to a sun-filled room, eating cereal in my pajamas and watching Saturday morning cartoons.
I suppose I’ve grown up a bit, having more sophisticated pajamas and replacing cartoons with the NYTimes. I keep the cereal routine alive, however.
Today’s find strikes the nostalgia I’m feeling. It also provides hope that our future generations won’t spend all their time on cell phones and computers, and will still yearn to learn about this world in more tangible ways.

For years, the practice of genital mutilation (female circumcision) seemed normal among villages and communities, however the effects of this horrible custom are physically, mentally and emotionally damaging.
I have no doubt of the continued practice in these areas, despite a threat of 10-year imprisonment by practitioners. I am, however, comforted to see the government finally stepping in and approving something that could help prevent many young females from this traumatic act in their own lifetime.
